Jessner’s is a mild to moderate peel formula that smoothes texture, reduces scarring and removes blemishes to produce healthy, glowing skin on the face, neck, hands and chest. It is appropriate for all skin types, and it is especially beneficial to patients who have acne problems or sun damage. The solution is formulated by combining lactic and salicylic acids with resorcinol and works to penetrate the skin’s layers to promote exfoliation. The exact concentration will be tailored to the unique requirements of your skin.
After a series of Retin-A treatments to prepare the skin, the Jessner’s solution is applied to the face, left on for 10 minutes, and then washed off with cool water. You might experience a slight burning sensation during the application process.
Additionally, the skin may have a white appearance immediately following the peel, but that typically only lasts for a few hours. Post-peel care includes application of Vaseline to the treated area for four days and avoidance of direct sunlight for one week. The skin may redden two to three days after treatment, and skin peeling takes place shortly afterward. Retin-A may be used again after one week. Jessner’s peels can be repeated as desired, taking place at least four weeks apart.
Jessner’s peel is not recommended for pregnant women, anyone with eczema or psoriasis, those prone to keloid scarring or people who have active cold sores. Rarely do complications occur due to a Jessner’s peel, but all chemical peels do carry the potential for risk. In this case, there is a minimal risk of developing infection or scarring.
